I want to leave Nigeria. Where do I travel to?

5 Things to consider before migrating from Nigeria .

Many Nigerians want to migrate from Nigeria to Europe, UK, US, Asia etc. However, before you take that bold step, you must consider the following.

  1. Country
The first thing you have to consider before making the move to travel, is the country.  You must have to research about the country you wish to travel to. Be conversant with their culture, weather, lifestyle etc.
When you have done your research about the country, and you are sure that you can adapt to the environment, then you consider the following factors.

  2. Language
Language is a very important factor that will determine your success in any country. This can be either a blessing or a barrier to your success.  You might have to learn the language of the country while you are in Nigeria. Because learning the language in the country will cost you time and money.
This could affect your ability to be gainfully employed, if your purpose of migrating is to work and earn an income. So be sure you can speak the language of the people before considering migrating to any country.

  3. Cost
Cost is a very important factor that most people ignore when making travel plans. Most times they only focus on the cost of Visa application and processing, forgetting the cost of living in a country.
So, while you are calculating the cost of Visa Application, you must also research on the average living cost of the country you intend to visit. Factor in the cost of accommodation, feeding, transportation, utilities bills etc.  This could differ based on the purpose of migrating, the cost implication of a foreign student will differ from someone migrating for work.

  4. Skills
Most Nigerians travel abroad without any skills. They end up regretting when they see so many opportunities that requires skills they do not have. It is important to research on the high paying skills in the country you wish to migrate to, if possible spend time and acquire the skills while in Nigeria.
It will always be cheaper to acquire the skills in Nigeria and get certification abroad. Because it will cost 10 times more to acquire abroad as a migrant. Lack of skills have rendered a lot of Nigerians unemployable abroad, and you do not want to be in such a situation.

  5. Age
Age is one important factor most Nigerians do not put into consideration while choosing a travel destination . If you are migrating solely for the purpose of working to make a living, you must put your age into consideration .
The type of jobs you might have to do in the country might not be favorable for your age. This might cause terrible health conditions in the long run. You would not want to spend all the money you made on hospital bills.
Also some job opportunities might have age restrictions attached. So ensure you put your age into consideration before making a move.
